Local musicians are set to perform tommorow at LongCheng Plaza for the Dream Star Zimbabwe talent show which will see finalist being selected for a trip to China. The musicians who include Trevor Dongo, Extra Large, Madiz, Leonard Mapfumo and Kaya will share the stage with show ambassador Jah Prayzah. The aspiring musicians will sample songs from the popular perfrormers and get to know the right lyrics for their renditions.

Last weekend the show held the auditions at the same venue with a huge turnout of youths while in Bulawayo the show was hosted at Rainbow Towers hotel where 10 finalist were selected.

The regional finals are done.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Dream Star Zimbabwe spokesperson Rumbidzai Matinanga said she was happy with how the regional finals were conducted.

“Many people auditioned and we are now coming towards the end. The show gives people a platform to shine and exposure. We have a lined up of entertainment which will also see, some of the local music award winners and kings in different genres.

The idea is not only for them to be entertained by the great musicians but to take a leaf from them hence understanding how they made it to where there are,” she said.

She said there is a lot of talent in the country that needs to be developed.

“I have been seeing a lot of talent across the country on some place we have been conducting the search. It just needs to be discoveredc.

In Bulawayo, the singers, as always, dominated in their numbers, but the beatboxer out shined them all. I wonder if they could take the grand prize. There is stiff competition,” she said.

Matinanga said Masvingo is out of the competition.

“It was not all great news for all the cities. Some found themselves out of the competition like Masvingo which were kicked out in early stages. However all those who qualified, will join the Harare regional finalists to perform ,” she said.

The talent search was launched last year as Zim Got Talent but had to change the name earlier this year after there was some confusion with other talent show with a similar name, Ke Nako Media who claimed they had ownership of the title Zim Got Talent.

Divine Chitubura (21) was last year’s overall winner as he walked away with $3 000 richer.
