The Herald of criticising ZBCTV in favour of DStv, something which I found a bit over the top.
The issue is ZBCTV is available on DStv bouquet and to say that we favour DStv is ridiculous. Surprisingly, DStv guys also complain that I,m too hard on them but quite honestly Ie have always done it the way it should be and that is giving readers a guide on what to look out for on the small screen.
This week I bring you one of the exciting programmes on ZBCTV or maybe should I say DStv since it’s a produced by DStv and screened on ZBCTV.
If you haven’t tuned in yet to DStv Warara Wasala Family Game Show this and every Wednesday at 7.30pm you don’t know what you are missing.
The new show with equally hip presenters — Willis Watafi and the beautiful Meesha Mushiko — will keep you glued to your seat. Apparently Warara Wasala means “once you snooze you lose”.
Keen to find out more on the programme I spoke to MultiChoice, the sponsors of the show. Below are excerpts from the interview:
Q. Can you give us a brief summary of what Warara Wasala is all about?
A. The Warara Wasala Game Show is a television game show produced by Black Brain productions and sponsored by DStv. The programme is flighted on ZTV. The Game Show features DStv subscribers as contestants participating and in line to win great prizes as part of DStv’s ongoing subscriber retention initiatives. The Warara Wasala Game Show also provides DStv subscribers with an opportunity to interact with the DStv brand in an exciting way.
Can you give a detailed explanation on how the game is played?
The game show is divided into four categories; there is the “Answer It”, “Sing It”, “Draw It” and “Know It” segment. The first team to buzz can answer the question, if they answer wrong they rewind 10 points from their score, if they get it right they fast forward 20 points to their score. The team with the lowest score at the end of the round gets eliminated. If there is a tie  one tie-breaker question is asked. First correct buzz wins.
Q. What is the theme of the show?
A. The Game Show seeks to educate and interact with DStv subscribers in a fun-filled manner.
Q. What was your purpose for coming up with such a game show?
A. The objective of the Warara Wasala Game Show is to educate potential and existing DStv subscribers in Zimbabwe of the different bouquets that DStv offers and the various channels available on these bouquets in a fun and interactive way. The Game Show also seeks to reward Zimbabweans and in the true ethos of DStv’s brand promise of “so much more”, the prizes won and entertainment the game show provides strengthens that positioning.
Q. What does Warara Wasala mean and why did you chose that as the name of the show?
A. Warara Wasala is a combination of Zimbabwean vernacular languages (Shona and Ndebele) which essentially means “You snooze, you lose”. The name is in line with the time-based format of the show where contestants need to answer questions and perform tasks as quick as possible in order to win, so it’s always a race against the clock.
Q. What are the targeted audience?
A. The Warara Wasala Game Show is a show targeted at entertaining the entire family.
Q. Who are the presenters of the show?
A. Willis Wataffi and Meesha Mushiko
Q. Is the show going to be a permanent feature on our screens or it’s a one-off programme?
A. We will await to see how Zimbabweans and sponsors receive this season of the game show and if it proves to be a success, we will, together with our partners ZBCTV then look at commissioning another season.
