Cop remanded in custody

George Maponga in Masvingo
A 24-year-old police officer based at Masvingo Central Police Station has appeared before a Masvingo magistrate’s court facing theft charges after he allegedly stole a fellow cop’s tablet phone at their workplace.

Constable Edmore Kafesu (24) allegedly stole an Immerse S4 tablet worth $460 from Constable Sarah Dhliwayo (29) after she left it in an office at the police station last week.

He denied the theft charges when he appeared before magistrate Mr Oliver Mudzongachiso and was remanded in custody to March 3 for trial. Prosecutor Mr Fidelicy Nyamukondiwa said on February 19, Cst Dhliwayo reported for work at Masvingo Central before 8am, but found her office locked, prompting her to wait in a nearby office.

She then allegedly met Cst Kafesu, and when Cst Dhliwayo left the office where she had been waiting, she allegedly forgot her handbag with her phone inside. Cst Kafesu allegedly sneaked into the office and stole her phone, but luck ran out for him after he tried to sell the phone’s memory card to another police officer, who insisted on testing the card before paying. Cst Dhliwayo’s photos were on the memory card.
