A city man has taken his 35-year-old wife to court on allegations of bigamy after she allegedly married another man without having legally divorced her first husband. Trucas Manyonga, of number 42 Msasa Road, appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Gladys Moyo charged with bigamy. Ms Moyo remanded the matter to March 5.

Manyonga pleaded not guilty to the charges, indicating that she only knew her supposed second husband, Abedinico Munemo, as a friend. However, Munemo revealed that he had dated Manyonga since 2014 and started staying with her in January this year.

“I did not know that she was legally married to another man. She never disclosed that information to me.

“I only came to know that she was married when her husband approached me on February 26,” he said. Munemo said he was shocked to see a valid chapter 5:11 marriage certificate which showed that Manyonga was Brisito Sande’s wife. “We are staying together in Budiriro as husband and wife and when Sande confronted me I was shocked that I was living with a woman who had already wedded another man,” he said.
