A Government-sanctioned investigations committee has completed the assessment of 13 Masvingo City houses that face demolition after they were built on a wetland in Runyararo West suburb.

The houses hogged the limelight in February this year after they were flooded following incessant rains in the city leaving occupants counting the costs of damaged property.

Preliminary findings revealed that the houses built on the fringes of Davies Mugabe Street in Runyararo West were built on a wetland on the shores of a perennially flowing stream.

According to Masvingo Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa, a committee set up to probe the issue of the houses has completed its work.

Engineer Mukaratirwa said the committee’s report and recommendations had been sent to the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing July Moyo for a final decision on the way forward.
