Dr Vikela

DOC VIKELA, real name Victor Tinashe Mpofu, brought the roof down at the Alliance Francais on Thursday as he gave a flawless act, and even gave “priceless” advice to the MDC-T.With the motto, “Trust me, I am a Doctor”, Doc Vikela, though not consulted, prescribed the best way for the MDC-T to win an election.

“You know, the MDC-T are just clueless. To win elections, they were supposed to make Simba Chikore their leader.” He paused a little and the crowd impatiently shouted, “why, why”?

To which he said, “Simba Chikore is the only one who took something from President Mugabe, and on top of that, managed to keep it. He took Bona . . .”

This had the audience in stitches. The couple is well known, with Bona Mugabe and Chikore having tied the knot in February this year in what was dubbed the “Wedding of the Year”.

He followed up with another that includes popular show host Mai Chisamba. “I am so dark in complexion such that instead of calling me Doc Vikela friends call me Dark Vikela.

“So I won’t go on the Mai Chisamba show because she will make a whole show on me. She will say, ‘Kusviba, kusviba kusviba. Chii chinonzi kusviba?   Chii chinokonzera kusviba? Kunopedzwa sei? Zvose izvi zvinongotaurika chete kana tiri muAmai Chisamba Show. Vadiwa vateereri, nhasi muchirongwa tina mazvikokota venyaya dzezvekusviba, Baba Oliver Mtukudzi’ (Dark complexion. What causes it? How can one solve it? All this can only be talked about I mai Chisamba show. Dear watchers, today in the programme we have our expert in dark complexion, Oliver Mtukudzi).”

The “Doctor” came and examined, prescribed and treated such that those who were a bit under were left beaming. Though the show was for one hour, Doc Vikela had to add another 30 minutes as the audience clamoured for more of the hilarious act.

On the sidelines of the show, Doc Vikela said that he was happy with the support stand-up comedy is receiving in Zimbabwe, which ensures its growth.

“The reception was magnificent and out of this world. I am humbled that while this venue carries 90 people, there were so many standing, more than a full house. I thoroughly enjoyed the set. The brand has taken off and now we take comedy to the people,” Doc Vikela said. Prominent theatre writer, director and NAMA winner, Blessing Hungwe of the “Burn Mukwerekwere Burn” fame, attended the show.

Also present were Farhan Esat, Daniel Maphosa, Tafadzwa Bob Mutumbi and fellow comedians Carl Joshua Ncube and Simba the Comic King.
