Concert” slated for November 12 at the 7 Arts Theatre.
Harare music lovers have already dubbed it the ultimate musical Christmas present.
“Shows featuring the best are few and far apart. You have every reason to call it my early Christmas present,” one fan said.
Tsungi Zvodgo, Chiwoniso’s manager, was equally upbeat about the gig.
“Both artistes on the bill are talented and fans should just expect the unexpected because anything can happen on stage,” she said.
She, however, said ever since Adam Chisvo’s death, it has been a toll order to fill his gap.
“Adam left a gap that no one can ever fill but we learnt a lot from him,” she said.
Chiwoniso who is lovingly called Chi by her fans, is an amazingly talented diva whose latest album “Rebel Women” is a favourite of many.
Between the two of them, Tuku and Chi have over 40 years of experience and they know how to treat their audiences whether its up-tempo or sing along tunes, they have it all.
Chi has the freedom to explore every corner of her musical being, from pure mbira magic with long-time acoustic ensemble Vibe Culture, to new electric fusions with rock, blues, and a rainbow of genres, in collaboration with various artists. She exudes cool confidence and high energy on stage whenever she takes to the stage.
The 7 Arts Theatre is expected to provide Harare audiences with an exciting series of unforgettable experience from the free flowing and mesmerising voice of Chi.
She is by no means a newcomer to international stage, having performed during the Harare International Festival of the Arts opening nights on a number of occasions and her overseas tours, Chi has endeared herself with wider audiences.
Her 1998 album “Ancient Voices” is undoubtedly one of her best recordings on which she worked with her ex-husband Andy Brown.
The album consists of blues, jazz, rap and reggae feel.
In 1999, Chi was a nominee in the “Best Female Vocals of Africa” category of the Kora Awards.
The “VIP Concert” marks another chapter in her music career as she shares the stage with Tuku, who only a few years back had introduced his late son Sam at the same venue.
For him, it will be more or less like re-introducing Chi as her own daughter in music, so to speak. At 59, Tuku who is also referred to as the granddad of music, has much to offer in terms of music. With 59 albums to his credit, Tuku has collaborated with several musicians and each performance has its own unique style and spark.
Tawanda Chingarah of Hardcore World Entertainment, the organisers of the concert, promised fans a night to remember.
“As the festive season approaches there is no better way to do it than through song and dance and that’s what we want to see at the concert. Fans should bring their dancing shoes,” he said.
