THE 2019 motor racing season gets underway on March 3, with the staging of the first main circuit event of the year — the Ezytrack Main Circuit Race Day — at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare.

This promises to be a fun-filled day with lots of exciting racing from six different car classes with top national winners as well as bikers on show and it is one of four main circuit racing events that have been lined-up for this year.

The other three main circuit racing events have been slated for May 12, July 21 and October 20; and they will be part of a bumper motorsport season which includes four drag racing competitions and nine karting race meetings at Donnybrook.

Drag racing, which has become the most popular motorsport event on the local motor racing calendar, will have its first of the four national events lined-up for this year on March 31 with the other three race meetings scheduled for June 2, August 25 and November 3.

All these events will be hosted by the Sables Dragpro Club who run drag racing in this country.

“After staging a successful 2018 season, this year’s drag racing season promises to be much bigger and better as we are expecting to have more competitors in both the vehicle and bike sections.

“We are also expecting a number of entries from South Africa who will add an international flavour to our competitions this year,” said Mano Zevgolis of the Sables Dragpro Club.

Mano Zevgolis and his wife Susan have been behind the revival of drag racing in Zimbabwe.

Apart from the four drag racing events this year, there will be nine karting race days which have been pencilled for February 10, March 10, April 14, May 19, June 9, July 7, September 22, October 13 and November 17; all at Donnybrook.
