FORMER Premiership side Black Mambas won the uniformed forces battle after they got the better of Commando Bullets in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One league match at the weekend.

Warumwa Warumwa thrashed the mid-table army side 3-0 in a second half blitzkrieg after the teams had gone to the break level on terms.

John “Toto” Ncube’s side has been enjoying fine form and the victory gave them control of the race, with a four-point cushion over their nearest rivals in the log table, Golden Eagles and Herentals Under-20.

Interestingly, they will face another tough test against Herentals Under-20 tomorrow at Morris Depot. But Ncube believes they are on the right track and they will keep on working hard.

“I am happy with the progress so far and the team is doing well. The team has done us proud but we are still in the early phase of the league race. We have played 12 games; we still have five more to play before the mid-season break and we will see how we progress.

“The league race is a tough one and our games are coming in so fast. We are facing tricky sides but I am happy with the way the boys are performing. Our next target is Herentals Under-20 who are playing well. But our home record is also good, so we are ready for them,” said Ncube.

Black Mambas got all their goals in the second half, with former Player of the Year Zivanai Mhanda opening the scoring in the 55th minute. Leeroy Ndlovu then extended the lead in the 62nd minute before Brian Muza wrapped up the scoring in the 82nd minute, for the police outfit to claim top spot after 12 games. They have 28 points in the bag while Bullets have 15 points.

In the Eastern Region, Tenax reclaimed top spot after a 2-0 win over Midway while Bosso90 were the biggest winners in the Southern Region after they beat Binga Pirates 5-0.
