Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards nominees out Charity Njanji

Arts Reporter

Voting is now open for the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, enabling viewers to have their say in who should win the prestigious awards at a glittering ceremony in May.

MultiChoice Zimbabwe, head for Corporate Affairs and Public Relations, Charity Njanji, said the list of nominees for the awards had been released and voting for viewers’ choice of winners was now under way, closing on April 28.

“We are excited to see the nominees list and to hear from the adjudicators that they found the level of entries this year outstanding and inspiring,” she said.

“This year’s line-up is exceptional, reflecting the diversity and creativity prevalent in African cinema and television and we look forward to celebrating them all with this year’s awards event.”

She said entries were submitted between January 15 and February 14, covering work publicly exhibited or broadcast between December 1 2022 and December 31 2023.

“There have been changes to this year’s performance awards, which now fall into the categories of best actor and best actress in leading or supporting roles.”

“The awards have expanded to include 27 categories, comprising 16 non-voting categories, nine audience voting categories and two recognition awards: the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards,” she said.  Njanja said the non-voting categories will be determined by the AMVCA panel of judges, led by acclaimed film-maker Femi Odugbemi.

“The voting period is now open and will close on April 28, offering viewers the chance to rally behind and recognise the exceptional talent showcased throughout the year. Casting of your votes is done on the Africa Magic website.”

The 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards event is presented by Africa Magic in collaboration with Amstel Malta as the primary sponsor, while additional sponsors include Pepsi, Promasidor and Martell, alongside Tecno, Verve, QuickTeller, Tiger Beer, MTN, and Indomie.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for May 11, featured in a live broadcast across all Africa Magic Channels on DStv.
