School head Mrs Flora L. Ndhlovu receives a big cheer from the school’s prefects during the Speech and Prize-Giving Day at Kuwadzana 1 High School on Wednesday

Kuwadzana 1 High School on Wednesday held its Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day amid pomp and fanfare as the school honoured pupils who excelled in both academic and co-curriculum activities.The event, which attracted several stakeholders among them guest of honour and former headmaster Mr Tirivanhu B. Muzarurwi, sponsors and parents started as early 9am.

The school head, Mrs Flora L. Ndhlovu, led the invited guests while being guided by the impeccably dressed drum majorettes as they toured the school premises including the classroom blocks under construction, all-weather volleyball pitch and the culture centre among several other projects at the school.

Official proceedings moved to the school hall with the choir leading the national anthem while the Special Needs Department preceded the day’s devotion through praise and worship.

In her address, Mrs Ndhlovu highlighted the school’s several achievements in the previous academic year among the 100 percent records achieved in various Advanced Level subjects including History, Divinity, Geography, Physics and Technical Drawing among others.

She said the school had recorded an average of 95 percent pass rate for A-Level and an average of 45 percent in Ordinary Level subjects for 2012. Mr Muzarurwi emphasised the need for discipline among parents, teachers and children for the development of academic excellence at Kuwadzana 1 High School.

The commemorations were held under the theme “Discipline for academic excellence”. The day belonged to several pupils who received various awards in 95 various categories including academics and sport.

It, however, goes without saying that October 16, 2013 was a memorable day for Kuwadzana 1 High School. The event was indeed a success for all those who participated.
