The 100-day cycle targeting key infrastructural projects has started paying dividends with the Government and its partners being able to implement huge projects in phases.

The Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa came up with the idea of breaking projects into 100-day cycles to ensure all tiers of Government are fully equipped to meet development challenges to attain Vision 2030 of an upper middle income society.

The move was also aimed at achieving national priority goals as stipulated in the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), a short-term economic blueprint that runs from October 2018 to December 2020.

Prior to the 100-day cycle, the implementation of most Government programmes was being hindered by various sector performance deficiencies, said Minister of State for Presidential Affairs responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Jorum Gumbo yesterday while assessing progress on the Fula Community Integrated Environmental project in Beitbridge.

The initiative, which is co-sponsored by community members and the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), seeks to address land degradation, mitigate the effects of climate change on both crop and animal husbandry.

The project includes gully filling, water and sanitation and a solarised consolidated garden, all aimed at increasing food and nutrition and household income.

“The 100-day target based programme is a deliberate attempt by Government to address anomalies associated with project implementation,” said Dr Gumbo.

“The programme is intended to strengthen and reinvigorate the performance of the public sector in the implementation of Government programmes to provide solutions that confront our people.”

Dr Gumbo said the idea is to ensure that the 100-day cycle becomes the conduit for promoting development, guaranteeing job creation, empowerment of communities and reducing the prevalence of poverty among citizens.

The Fula project, which benefits about 200 households, has enabled the community to sustain themselves and pay fees for their children.

Dr Gumbo said the project was contributing to the ongoing Government School Feeding Program through the supply of water and vegetables for 250 pupils at the local primary school.

President Mnangagwa had instructed all arms of Government to speed up the delivery of basic services to the people, especially those in remote and water stressed areas.

Dr Gumbo commended the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) for its efforts in supporting life-changing projects for people in Beitbridge East constituency.

“Additionally it is pleasing to note that most projects carried out under a similar circle are bearing fruits nationwide and we are very hopeful that more will be rolled out since Government is seized with operationalising the devolution concept,” he said.
