Chapungu have ended ZPC Kariba’s 19-match unbeaten run in the most glorious manner after bombarding the power utility side 3-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Ascot Stadium yesterday.

In-form Brighton Mugoni scored a brace to help Chapungu eclipse ZPC.
It was a bad day in office for “Gwenya reChamhembe’s” centre-back Pardon Chinunga, who poured more misery on his side when he scored an own goal which totally shattered ZPC’s hopes of coming back into the game.

“Waruwaru” made their intentions clear just four minutes into the match when Maxwell Mavuto’s long-range shot was stopped by ZPC goalminder Wilson Muchenje to give away a corner kick.

Chapungu also came close to getting their opener in the 21st minute when Charles Murisa’s long-range shot was also stopped by the goalkeeper after getting a long pass from the back.

The airmen opened their scoring in the 32nd minute when Victor Bangira flighted a cross into the box to find an unmarked Mugoni who headed home from close range leaving Muchenje clutching thin air.

Chapungu doubled their advantage in the 56th minute when Chinunga beat his own goalkeeper while trying to intercept a cross from Murisa who had made a fine run on the left flank before flighting a cross into the box.

Bangira sealed the game in the 65th minute when he was squared by Bangira inside the box before his shot was deflected into the net by Dexter Phiri.

It was the home side which stole the show and dominated the entire game and the visitors were not given any room to retaliate. The visitors could have been intimidated a three-jet flypast during the match.

ZPC assistant coach Tempo Chuma conceded that his charges were totally outplayed by Chapungu who capitalised on their home advantage.
He said the defeat was a big setback to ZPC that could derail “Gwenya reChamhembe’s” hopes of becoming league champions.

Chuma said ZPC suffered a severe blow due to the absence of key players who were attending funerals. H said this impacted negatively on their performance.

“It is unfortunate that our unbeaten run ended in such a humiliating manner. However, we have to move on and tell our players that this is not the end of the world and we are still in the race. The journey is still on and what we need is to keep focused,” he said.

Chapungu assistant coach Clement Mugari said his charges put up a superb performance that saw his side totally eclipsing ZPC Kariba.
Chapungu are still unbeaten at home.
