Technology has a big impact on the way we all live and work, and at ZOL Zimbabwe, we want to help people get the very best from it. Our commitment to society and the communities where we work goes beyond providing a great network and great products and services. We believe in the principle of giving something back. Being able to stay in touch has become an essential part of how we live, both as individuals and as a vital tool for the business community. It’s no longer simply a question of catching up with friends, family and colleagues — more and more we rely on the internet connectivity to work, research, do homework, use money transfer services, pay bills and more.

ZOL Zimbabwe sponsors and is part of several events as we work towards bringing the community together. Through events and awareness campaigns, ZOL raises the spirit of togetherness for the promotion of worthy causes. Some of these events include Zimbabwe Colour Run, Miss World Zimbabwe and also the National Arts Gallery.

ZOL Zimbabwe provided free internet at this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF). ZITF is an annual trade fair event which brings businesses together from all over the world to Bulawayo for a week long exhibition.

The spirit of entrepreneurship

ZOL Zimbabwe provided internet services for this year’s Enactus Event in Zimbabwe. Enactus is housed under the BOOST Fellowship and has been an operational program for them since 2004. Enactus, known before October 2012 as Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), is an international non-profit organisation that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilise university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders.

Since 2010, the ZOL Start-Up Challenge has been giving innovative and creative potential entrepreneurs the chance to explore and execute their visions with the help of a select panel of Start-Up experts as well as essential financial support.

Doing more good with digital

We support several charities through providing internet services, hosting charity events and promoting them through our extensive business network with our clients. Some charities we have worked with include:

Aware trust

AWARE is the only veterinary conservation trust in Zimbabwe run by veterinarians, focusing on the welfare of wildlife and conservation of wildlife habitats. ZOL Zimbabwe has worked with AWARE in their events, fundraising with them to promote conservation of animals and their habitats. Most notable was the launch of a wildlife calendar, an auction of photographs of wildlife and a golf tournament.

St Joseph’s home for boys

St Joseph House for Boys has been a home to orphaned, abandoned, abused, neglected, marginalised and disadvantaged boys since 1929. The home currently looks after 55 boys, all below the ages of 18. ZOL Zimbabwe has supported the home through providing an internet connection to give the home access to information on the world wide web.

Golf Clubs

We support various golf clubs by providing a super-fast internet service.

Musi Trust Zim

Musi Trust Zimbabwe is a registered charity organisation recognised as a leader in the mobilisation of resources to support marginalised communities. ZOL Zimbabwe held a Golf Day event on the 19th of June 2015 to support the organisation in raising funds to build a dormitory for Fatima primary school. Fatima is a special education primary school in Lupane, Zimbabwe with 22 deaf and mute children and 6 children with visual impairment.

Dzikwa Trust

The word “dzikwa” means being on firm ground/having a strong foundation. Their work is direct grassroots assistance for the benefit of the most vulnerable children in Zimbabwe. ZOL Zimbabwe provides internet connectivity to open up the world to these most vulnerable in our society.

Island Hospice

Island Hospice and Bereavement Service is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to serving the community by providing direct home-based palliative care to those with a life threatening illness and their families and a comprehensive bereavement service. ZOL Zimbabwe provides a service to add to their total commitment to excellence in Hospice care, regardless of the ability to pay. ZOL Zimbabwe provides Island Hospice with a free internet fibre connection. This year, our Golf Day at Borrowdale Brooke will be in support of Island Hospice.

We work hard to be a responsible business: but we want to do more. Our aim is to open up our technology’s potential to support a better environmental future for everyone. But we can’t do it alone.
