HARARE City striker Francesco Zekumbawira says he has nothing to prove against his former paymasters Dynamos when they renew their Castle Lager Premiership rivalry at Rufaro on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, Zekumbawira said the Sunshine Boys were aiming for maximum points against the defending champions to push for a “respectable” finish in this year’s race.

A top-four finish is still within sight in the remaining six games.

Harare City have struggled to beat Dynamos in the league over the years and Zekumbawira believes team effort could see them through.

The big forward had a brief and unhappy stint at the Glamour Boys two years ago where he failed to blossom.

He was frustrated by lack of game time and recurring injuries before he decided to pack his bags and pursue his career elsewhere.

The injury-prone striker has also seen little action at Harare City this year but last week he was in top form when he fired the side into the final of the Chibuku Super Cup with a memorable brace in the 4-1 demolition of ZPC Kariba.

“I don’t have a point to prove to anyone. I take each game as it comes. I do my best towards the success of the team. I don’t take personal glory in anything I do but I just want to make sure that the team wins,” said Zekumbawira.

“I’m coming from injury and I’m slowly getting my fitness back and I’m happy. Like any other striker when you go into the game you would want to score.

“Sometimes it might not go your way but the thing is you always want to score. So I just want to go into this game and do my best. I hope I will score.

“We respect everyone at Dynamos but we hope our guys will come to the party and do better than them on the day.

“The confidence is high but I would like to do better than I did last time. We haven’t been scoring in the league so we got to get the team get more goals like we are doing in the cups,” said Zekumbawira.

The Sunshine Boys are not happy with their league campaign which has largely been in fits and starts and cannot be compared to their fantastic run in the Chibuku Super Cup.

Assistant coach Mike Madzivanyika said they need to carry their cup form into the league competition in the remaining six matches.

Harare City have scored an impressive 13 goals in three Chibuku Super Cup matches but have been struggling in front of goal in the championship.

“It’s a new game and we will be playing for three points. There are six game before the season ends and we are taking each game as it comes,” said Madzivanyika.

“We would like to do our best to consolidate our position or even to do better.

“We have done our preparations during the week but we have some injuries on Talent (Chawapihwa) and Learnmore (Muyambo) who are still out.

“Our captain David Kutyauripo has started training, so has Timire Mamvura.

“If you look at the league games that we have played, we have created so many chances but we were not putting them away. We hope the boys will carry the form from the cup games into the next league game against Dynamos.”

Harare City are currently sitting on sixth place on the log standings with 35 points, 14 behind leaders Chicken Inn, who are involved in a Bulawayo derby against How Mine tomorrow at Luveve.
