Dancehall chanter Winky D is set to headline Intwasa Arts Festival that takes place from September 21 to 26 in Bulawayo. The festival will run under the theme “My Intwasa, Your Intwasa, Our Intwasa”. The 11th edition of the festival will present various activities like dance, theatre, poetry and music.

Winky D will perform at a Celebrate Bulawayo concert on September 25 at the Large City Hall. Africa Revenge will also be one of the main attractions at the festival’s opening ceremony on September 22 at the Large City Hall car park.

United Kingdom top poet Deanna Rodger is also set to perform at the festival. Rodger has won various competitions which include the UK Poetry Slam Competition in 2007 to 2008 and has performed at prestigious venues that include Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street.

She will share the stage with local female poets during the Women, Words and Wine Poetry Night at this year’s edition of the popular arts and cultural fiesta, according to festival organiser Raisedon Baya.

Baya said this year they had decided to give more female poets the opportunity to showcase their artistic skills.

“The Women, Words and Wine Poetry Night will see more women conducting performances. Their works of poetry have amplified women voices through acts that they have performed,” he said.

Nomashawekazi Damasane, popularly known as Lady Tshawe, who is known for her breath taking performances embedded in her artistic style, expression and image, will be one other main attraction at the festival.

Other female artistes who will feature in the event include Tinashe Tafirenyika who is a wordsmith in her own right.

She started performing poetry in 2013. Since then she has graced Shoko Festival, Protest Arts International Festival. She will be making a debut appearance at Intwasa.

Harare based Moreblessing Size, a poet, writer and librarian, is also among the performance poets that will grace the night.

Her poetry centres on life, its struggles and components, especially love and women’s issues.

Advance tickets to the festival are ranging between $5 and $10, are already on sale at various points in Bulawayo.
