A Harare woman allegedly divorced her husband after accusing him of being |uneducated and poor”, the Civil Court heard last week.

Clemence Madziva claimed his former wife, Mirriam Madziva, was now coming to his place of residence to assault his new wife.

Madziva was dragged to court by Mirriam who was seeking a protection order against him.

“Your Worship, Mirriam and I were husband and wife, but she divorced me saying I was poor and uneducated,” he said.

Madziva told the magistrate, Mr Trevor Nyatsanza, that Mirriam claimed that she was going to get married to a rich and educated man.

“She is the one who ditched me, but she is now coming to my house making noise and assaulting my new wife,” said Madziva.

Madziva claimed Mirriam was always threatening to file false reports against him to the police.

Mirriam had submitted that Madziva was breaching her peace by physically abusing her.

“He is in the habit of verbally and physically abusing me whenever I go to his house to ask for money to buy food for our child,” she said.

Mirriam pleaded with Mr Nyatsanza to grant her application saying she had endured a lot of suffering in the hands of Madziva.

Mr Nyatsanza dismissed Mirriam’s application due to lack of merit.

“Your application is hereby dismissed. Come back to court when you have proof and witnesses to substantiate your case,” he said.
