Shadreck Munetsi (31) a salesman with Edenfresh Produce Pvt Ltd misrepresented to Wonder Mutambudzi, the director of Today Farming Pvt Ltd that Edenfresh wanted an order of 19 500kgs of potatoes from his company and would pay after one week.
Munetsi was not asked to plead to fraud charges when he appeared before magistrate Mr Don Ndirowei recently.
He was granted US$50 bail and is expected to be back in court on April 28 for routine remand.
Prosecutor Ms Svodai Kadivirire alleges that on March 22 this year, Munetsi went to Mutambudzi’s company in Mandara with an order requesting potatoes valued at US$15 600.
He allegedly misrepresented to Mutambudzi that he would pay for the potatoes within seven days through a bank transfer.
Mutambudzi, the State says, as per agreement delivered the potatoes at Biddulphs in Workington industrial area. The State alleges that after the lapse of seven days, Mutambudzi tried to contact Munetsi who became evasive.
Mutambudzi made some inquiries with Biddulphs who then told him that they were instructed by Munetsi to deliver the potatoes to one Mr Patel in Bulawayo.
The court heard that Mutambudzi contacted Mr Patel who informed him that he had paid Munetsi in full for the potatoes. It is further alleged that Mutambudzi learnt that Munetsi had sold the potatoes at a lesser price than the amount they had agreed on.
A report was made to the police leading to Munetsi’s arrest. – CR.
