US$1,2 million vehicles for Bulawayo City Council

The vehicles include 23 pick-up trucks and a tow truck.
In an interview yesterday, council’s financial director Mr Kimpton Ndimande said negotiations with a supplier that he declined to name were at an advanced stage.

“We are optimistic that the cars will be coming. We could have them as early as next week. Negotiations with a supplier are ongoing and a deal may be concluded any time this week,” he said.

The city’s director of engineering services, Engineer Simela Dube, said most of the vehicles would be deployed towards water and sewerage services.
“The tow truck will be used to impound improperly parked vehicles in the city.

“The majority of the 23 pick-ups will go to the water and sewerage departments. We expect them to reduce the reaction time by council whenever sewer or water pipe bursts are reported,” said Eng Dube.
He said council plumbers and teams clearing sewer blockages would use the cars.
Eng Dube said other council departments would also get at least one vehicle each.-Chronicle
