COVENTRY University in the UK, in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Music Promoters Association (UK), has come up with a soccer coaching and administration course which is aimed at upgrading the skills of coaches and administrators in the Southern African Region.

This two-week programme, which is scheduled to run from August 13 to 27 in England, is the brainchild of Godfrey Kanengoni, a Zimbabwean who is based in the UK.

Speaking to The Herald from his base in Coventry yesterday, Kanengoni, who is the director of ZIMMPA, said he took this initiative of coming up with a two-week coaching and administration course after having some consultation with the authorities at Coventry University, who indicated that they were willing to help in raising the standards of football in the Southern African Region. Apart from being the director of ZIMMPA, Kanengoni is currently studying for a Master of Science degree in Event Management at Coventry University and he said that they were looking at having more than 15 soccer coaches and administrators from the Southern African Region taking part in this course.

“I have already had enquiries from Malawi and Zambia and so far five people from these two countries have already indicated that they would like to take part in this programme and I am also inviting any interested people from my home country Zimbabwe to enrol for this course before next week’s deadline.

“In fact, the authorities at Coventry University have indicated to me that the deadline for registration is the end of next week and I am now looking at having more than 15 people for this soccer coaching and administration course. This auspicious occasion will run over a period of two weeks during which the participants will network and interface with various stakeholders here in the UK,” Kanengoni said.

He said the cost per person is $3 950 and the package covers a welcome dinner, transport while the participants are in the UK, coaching and management sessions with reputable speakers, accommodation, visits to St George’s Park and an overnight stay at the Football Association of England.
