Top musicians Mai Olivia Charamba, Alexio Kawara and Cynthia Mare have joined the fight against gender-based violence. The three have been appointed ambassadors an organisation called World Education Inc/Bantwana.

The organisation’s child protection advisor Precious Muwoni said they have engaged the three musicians to spearhead an awareness campaign.

“We have decided to engage popular people to speak against GBV so that they help us in fighting it,” she said.

Muwoni said the musicians will assist them to challenge harmful cultural and religious practises and also to educate people so that they can have access to facilities and report such cases to the police.

“Researchers revealed that 42 percent of married women have suffered from spouse abuse and 40 percent of them have accepted it.”

She said the three will champion change against GBV using their status in the society.

Mai Charamba will educate older women while Mare will be working with girls and young adults.

Kawara will be responsible for boys and young adults while Dr Shingi Munyeza will work with men.

“The organisation will work tirelessly with the ambassadors to make sure that we reach to the people educating them to report these cases and to tackle them without fear,” she said.

Mai Charamba who is one of the top female gospel musicians said she would work hard to ensure that gender-based violence is eliminated.

“Through our shows we will make sure the word has reached to people. If people leave peacefully then God can bless us,” she said.

Kawara concurred with Mai Charamba saying he will do his best.

Mare who is riding high with her single “Moto Ngaubvire” said she would use different social platforms to alert Zimbabweans, especially girls and young adults, about the implications of violence.

“From the presentations we have heard that girls and women are victims of abuse so we need to teach them to report and also to tackle such issues in a way that will eliminate the tendencies of abuse,” she said.

The three artistes are working on a song that will be released soon.

The organisation has been hailed for upping efforts to fight gender based violence with their initiatives such as “stop the bus campaign”.
