Tendai Chakanyuka celebrates success

Entertainment Reporter
Radio presenter Tendayi Chakanyuka who was voted Best Radio Personality at the recent National Arts Merit Awards will celebrate her achievement tonight at Black Rock Lounge and Grill at Borrowdale Race Course. Her party will be powered by Huggiez Entertainment that has found a new base at the venue. Several stakeholders in the entertainment industry have been invited and fans will also have a chance to celebrate with the affable DJ.

Chakanyuka, a holder of a diploma in Mass Communication joined the then Radio 3 in 1997 as a part time presenter.

“The Sweet Thang”, as she is popularly known, was inspired by veteran presenter Eunice Goto who used to present a morning show on Radio 3.

The station re-branded to Power FM and relocated to Gweru and, being a part time presenter, Chakanyuka took a break from radio.

Chakanyuka then resurfaced in 2008 with SFM before she rejoined Power FM.

Ever since, she has not looked back and has been a trendsetter for young female presenters of today.

Commenting on her award, the DJ said God has taken her this far.

“God has been with me over the years as I did my job. He has taken me to another level and I thank Him,” she said.

“My fellow DJs have been supportive and continue to do so. My family has been inspirational and my listeners have been awesome. It all calls for celebration.”

The Sweet Thang will join fellow radio presenters and fans for a worthy celebration.

The Huggiez trio of Kudzi ‘Mr Kool’ Marudza, Witness ‘Chuman’ Matema and Ronald ‘D-train’ Chiwanza will be on rotation and there is no doubt a high dosage of old skool will be on offer.

“There is no cover charge for the party and bringing an invite is not a must, we just want to celebrate with Tendayi for her achievement and the only condition is that one must dress to kill for the occasion,” said one of the organisers of the party.
