Just as we thought that courage comes with age Tanya Muzindi a girl (10), has become the talk of town with her astonishing skills on a motocross bike. Tanya reveals how her motor cycle life began at a tender age of five as she thanks her parents for mentoring her up to what she is today. “I would like to thank my parents who believed in me and believed that a girl could do something unique as riding a motor bike and it’s unlike of girls to ride motorcross bikes.
“Traditionally girls are not associated with such sporting activities, “she said.

Only a Grade Five pupil at Eaglesvale School, she has been appointed an honorary ambassador for Youth, Gender, Sports and Development by the EU.
“It’s a great honour that the European Union has selected me to be representing every little girl out there who has a dream to be someone in life,” said Muzindi.

As if winning the motocross bike contest is not enough, Muzindi is the only girl in the contingent of 32 raiders who will represent Zimbabwe at this annual event which brings together all the top motocross riders from Africa.

Tanya received a motocross bike from the EU and it was handed over to her by the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe Aldo Dell’Arricia at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare this month.

Muzindi is set to have a feel of the new bike at the FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championship in Kitwe, Zambia later this month.
Young sables fall

THE Young Sables dream of making it to the Junior World Rugby Trophy tournament suffered a huge blow yesterday when they lost 20-27 to Kenya at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia.

This is the second time, in as many years, that coach Nsikelelo “Sykes” Sibanda and his men have been pushed out of the Junior Africa Cup by Kenya having lost in the opener last year in Nelspruit, South Africa. Zimbabwe will play in third place play-off tomorrow against Tunisia and they have to win this game if they are to remain in the JWRT qualifier group for next year’s Junior Africa Cup.

The last time Zimbabwe made it for the JWRT was in 2011 when they beat Namibia and qualified for the United States edition under the guidance of coach Brighton Chivandire who is now Sables team manager. The experienced front row, which included prop Farai Mudariki who played for the Sables in the World Cup qualifiers in Madagascar and Russia, Gabriel Sipapate from Churchill, former Under-18 Craven Week players Jabulani Mutukwa and Thabani Mujeni, failed to help Zimbabwe beat Kenya.
