Despite a low turnout and bad weather, Zim Hip-hop 2017 nominee Takura Shonhai put up a sterling performance at the Big Turn Up show held at Newlands Country Club in Harare over the weekend.

Clad in a red tracksuit, Takura who was among several artistes at the event performed several of his hit songs among them “Mhofu” and “Zino Irema and had the fans dancing, before a downpour interrupted the show.

Some of the musicians who were lined up for the show include Jam Signal, Gary Tight and Zinarayah while on the decks disc jockeys Eve Phatchild and Langton B proved their prowess when they had to juggle international beats alongside local ones.

Man of the moment Jah Prayzah made a brief appearance. He did a chorus of “Kutonga Kwaro” and received a thunderous applause.

Shabach Band also wowed the crowd with their live performance, during which they played yesteryear hits from great hip-hop musicians.

The event, which ran under the theme “Denim Affair”, saw fans and guests showcasing the latest denim wear.

A luxury car exhibit, fashion and food exhibition preceded the main event.

In an interview with one of the organisers, Tawanda Madzara of Ecrag Group, said all went according to plan despite the inclement weather.

“Yes, we had a low turnout because the event targets a certain niche of people. Everything went according to plan. It was ‘Royal November’ as we get to celebrate birthdays of celebrities.

“The event is a VIP social networking platform and a celebrity movement where celebrities just show up, like what Jah Prayzah did. We are in our second month and we promise bigger and better events,” he said.

Madzara said plans for December were already underway with December 22 – Unity Day – set aside for the event.
