Auditions for this year’s edition of Dream Star Zimbabwe which started on July 24 has unleashed a lot of talent from the country’s 10 provinces. Having gone to at least eight cities, namely Bulawayo, Kwekwe, Masvingo, Chinhoyi, Gweru, Marondera, Mutare and Chitungwiza, the talent search show is proving to be stiffer this time around with musicians and dancers topping the contestants’ list. It seems the nation is pregnant with talent with Chitungwiza introducing a new act in the country, the Theatrical Movement, which is not only popular to Zimbabwe but in European countries as well.

This has been the major highlight of the auditions so far since it left everyone including the judges stunned.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Dream Star Zimbabwe spokesperson Rumbidzai Matinanga said they were overwhelmed with the response the talent search show was getting this year.

“The auditions in the cities that we have been to have been successful and we can safely say that this time around the competition is going to be stiffer judging by the contestants that we got from cities like Bulawayo and Kwekwe,

In Bulawayo, we were supposed to come up with only six acts for the semi-finals but we were forced to incorporate 13, meaning there is real competition,” she said.

The Harare auditions are on this Friday at the Reps Theatre.

“Zimbabwe has talent for real and we look forward to experience more in the Harare auditions which will be held this Friday and Saturday and those selected in the eight cities will go through to the semi-finals,” she said. After the auditions they will have the semi-finals to select the finalists that are set to tour China in September, she said.

“We are going to have the semi- finals on August 15 and we are going to have two regional semi-finals in Harare and Bulawayo. From the 10 finals 10 contestants will be selected from each region and are going for a cultural exchange in China together with last year’s top three.

“They will have at least three shows, one in the capital Beijing, the other in Chengdu City, which is the central city of China and we are still working on the third city,” she said.
