Star FM disk jockeys last weekend confirmed their market dominance as talented radio presenters that spurred the station to the position of top radio broadcaster in the land. The DJs shone when they hosted the “Star FM’s Big Hangout DJ Festival” at Old Hararians Sports Club on Friday. The radio station was ranked as number one in a Zamps survey announced a week before the Big Hangout and what a great show it turned out to be.

Scores of music lovers came in their numbers to celebrate the success of the pioneering commercial radio station which until this year was ranked second after Radio Zimbabwe.

And kudos go to all the Djs who performed on the night as they kept the crowds screaming for more. From the outset the DJs on the line-up had come prepared for what appeared to be a “battle of supremacy” and indeed the festival lived up to its billing.

The stage, the lighting and the music matched international standards and there was enough space to swing a catch. DJs P Styles, Mos Deezy, Rimo, Ray Dizz, Stavo, Bhaffly and Super DJs had their game tight rocking the masses with a mash-up of house and R’n’B.

But the duo of Game Recognise Game (Ash Styles and Nivek) and L Roy deserve special mention as they thrilled the crowd with different sets after what seemed to be an overdose of house.

Then came Star FM’s mixmaster , Otis Fraser whose delivery was nothing short of magic. The Flow as he is popularly on the decks opened his set taking fans back and forth from old to new skool.

He went outside the box and played yesteryear club bangers much to the delight of the crowd that sang along to every tune. The Flow also showed a thing or two about how to be a good DJ from crowd control to flawless delivery on the decks. Also not to be outdone was DJ Naida who represented women in the male-dominated sector to the fullest.

DJ Naida rocked like never before and she had great fans eating out of her palms. Guest artiste Roki also did not waste time and made sure the crowd had a great time. He was credited for drawing fans closer to the stage where the bright lights could affect those with photo sensitive.

Itai Mutinhiri also performed her new single “Hangover” and proved that she was more than a news anchor and a pretty face. Breakfast Club hostess Nikki Ndoro who was the emcee of the night was up to the task as she exuded high energy. Perhaps the only setback was at the bars where drinks were served at room temperatures. Piwayi Dzuda, the general manager of Star FM who was part of the crowd was happy with festival and promised more “Big hangouts” in future.
