United Kingdom-based, Zimbabwean artiste Theresa Shangazhike, affectionately known as Shanky, is on a mission to revive urban grooves music. The young artiste has released a new single titled ‘Suduruka’ that reminds people of the good days of urban grooves and its cover is labeled “Queen of Urban Grooves”.

She says her music has already been featured on radio stations such as ZiFM, BBC 1xtra, Naija FM and many other radio stations in and around the UK. In an interview with the Herald Entertainment Shanky gave more detail on the new single as well as her musical career.

“I started my music career at the age of five when I joined the church choir at Sacred Heart Cathedral <http://www.pindula.co.zw/index.php?title=Sacred_Heart_Cathedral&action=edit&redlink=1> in Harare <http://www.pindula.co.zw/Harare>. I only joined the choir not because of the love for music but because my elder sister was also part of the choir. I had my debut performance at the Zim Cup Clash in 2012,” she said

She has also featured in some musical videos for established acts such as Stunner, Roby Gee, Decibel and Bkay and Kazz. “This year I have seen my break into the mainstream Afro beat scene since my performance at last year’s Afro beats UK concert. I have also performed at the Africa Unplugged Concert along with Davido, Tiwa Savage and Diamond at the Brixton O2,” said Shanky.

“I have just released a new single titled “Suduruka” and so far it has been received quite well especially on the radio channels. I also look forward to come to Zimbabwe to promote my music said,” Shanky said. “I am also quite involved in community-based projects such as concerts to help fundraise for charities such as the Faith in Action Charity in Africa, mainly Zambia and Zimbabwe,” she said.

Shanky is a proud daughter of Zimbabwe, happy to fly the flag and recently she was aired on UK’s Klear TV singing Zimbabwe ’s national anthem for Independence Day celebrations. She has done music videos for her singles “Swedera” and “First Sight”.
