ZANU-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has urged the western world to respect the will of Zimbabweans who overwhelmingly endorsed the revolutionary in the recent harmonised elections. The Zanu-PF national chairman said the party swept to a crushing victory because Zimbabweans backed Zanu-PF’s people-oriented economic policies, which are set to transform their lives.

Cde Khaya Moyo said this during a meeting with Palestinian ambassador to Zimbabwe to Mr Hashem Dajan at the Zanu-PF headquarters in Harare yesterday.

He said Zanu-PF’s manifesto is premised on people-oriented economic policies.
“We were not therefore surprised in the end by the outcome of the elections in terms of the results,” he said. “I think people bought into our manifesto, people got the messages loud and clear from the leadership.

“And by the end of the day come election day people spoke, spoke in the sense that they gave the mandate to the party they thought can deliver in terms of the upliftment of their lives.

In this regard, Cde Khaya Moyo said the western world should respect the will of the Zimbabweans who want to define their own destiny.
“We must respect the will of the people. The people of Zimbabwe have spoken and we cannot go against their will. We must now focus really on the issues of development,” said Cde Khaya Moyo

He said the party was not surprised by the stance taken by some Western countries that were quick to try to discredit the outcome of the polls.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the West was disparaging the polls because their favoured candidate lost.

“We were not surprised of course by one or two countries in the West who are disappointed that their man did not win,” he said.
“We expect that to come from them but we are talking about the people of Zimbabwe. This is an African election observed by and large by Africans themselves.

“But we get apprehensive when the so-called civilised world begin to doubt the capacity of the African person. They think we are less human — they are better species . . . Their mourning is not our problem.”

Cde Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF would be responsive to the needs of people and strive to deliver on promises it made to the electorate before the next elections in 2018.

He said all National Assembly members would be submitting quarterly reports to the Presidium on development programmes in their constituencies.

Cde Khaya Moyo assured the Palestinian chief diplomat here that the revolutionary party would not fail the people who gave it the mandate to deliver on their expectations.

“I can assure you that we are not sitting on our laurels in any manner,” he said.
“This is why we have now also said to the elected Members of Parliament that each one will have to give us as the Presidium for instance the performance in their constituencies.

“We need that appraisal so that there is always constant touch with the people.
“From the people we come and to the people we must go so each MP should give us a quarterly report of what they are doing.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said the party would work towards improving infrastructure in the country including refurbishing of roads, building of schools and clinics, dam construction and irrigation development.

Cde Khaya Moyo described the elections as peaceful adding that Zanu-PF was happy with reports coming from organisations that observed the elections.

He said Zanu-PF would continue to support Palestine in its quest to attain its nationhood.
Cde Khaya Moyo said he was concerned that Israel was continuing to invade into the Palestinian territory.

Ambassador Dajan congratulated Zimbabwe for holding peaceful elections where people freely expressed their will.
“We want to congratulate you for that victory,” he said.

“We are sure your party will succeed in its mission in facing all the challenges you may encounter.
“I want to say that I was here all the time when elections were held and want to say honestly I did not see a peaceful election like the one held here.

We are looking forward to strengthening our existing and brotherly relations.”
Ambassador Dajan also called for the removal of the western sanctions regime. He said Palestine wanted to good neighbourliness with its neighbours but it was disheartening that Israel was continuing its invasion into the Palestinian territory.
