A woman last week told the Harare Civil Court that her ex-husband had threatened to kill her and their two children if she refused to reconcile with him.Martha Nyamuda said Ezra Mahuni was also threatening to commit suicide after killing her and their offspring. Nyamuda was seeking a protection order against Mahuni, whom she said was in the habit of coming to her place of residence to physically abuse her.

“He divorced me but now he is coming to my parents’ place where I am living with the children to threaten us with death,” she said.

Nyamuda told Harare Civil Court magistrate Mrs Babra Masinire that Mahuni had warned that he would not rest until he killed her and the children.

“He is also threatening to kill anyone he suspects to be romantically involved with me saying I should never get involved with any other man,” said Nyamuda. She also told the court that Mahuni was forcing her to support him financially.

“He is also in the habit of forcing me to maintain him by paying his rentals and buying him food under the pretext that he is not employed.
“He visits my workplace where he threatens to destroy company property,” said Nyamuda.

Mahuni denied the allegations against him saying they were still a couple.

“She is still my wife as far as I am concerned because I never gave her a divorce token,” he said.

Mahuni said he was in the process of talking to Nyamuda’s relatives to effect a reconciliation.

Mrs Masinire granted the order in Nyamuda’s favour, barring Mahuni from physically or verbally abusing her. She ordered Mahuni to keep peace in his relations with Nyamuda and to stop threatening her.
