Radio personality Tariro Mharapara – affectionately known as Butterphly – will represent Zimbabwe in the Big Brother Africa Hotshots.
DJ Butterphly was yesterday announced as the country’s housemate on the show website together with Kenyan actor-cum-radio drama director Alusa and Ellah from Uganda.
In a video interview with the show organisers, the disc jockey said she will be much of herself during the reality show.

“What is popping Africa, my name is Butterphly . . . bringing it like it’s never been brought and I can’t wait for you to meet me. I grew up in Harare and I live with family, mother and my two kids. Definitely no back-stabbing like intense horrible mean, obviously no sex thing and hopefully I won’t fight so that there won’t be cameras all over me,” she said.

The 24-year-old housemate presents lunch time radio show on Power FM.
She said her strategy was to be herself in order to win Africa’s heart.

“I think I will be using the ancient cliché, which is ‘to be yourself’. I always want to be me. I want to be vital, like oxygen how it is vital in people’s lives. I want to be important in the show and Africa should keep me in the house and (I will be) Africa’s new best friend,” she said.

Butterphly said if she wins the prize money she would take her children and siblings to a better school.
“If I win, l will send my sister, brother and kids to really good schools, start a chain of unique food, social and fashion hangout joints and take my mom shopping,” she said.

The vibrant and energetic DJ said she was inspired by her mother.
According to information on the show’s website Butterphly listed her favourite foods as meat, pasta with cheese, black-eyed peas and eggs.

Her favourite books include “The Firm”, “The Long Goodbye”, “The Sherlock Holmes” series and the Bible.
She likes to watch “Chopped, 24”, “Intelligence” and “Big Brother Africa”.

Butterphly said she entered Big Brother Hotshots because she had always wanted to be part of a national sports team, but never got the chance.
“Being on Big Brother Africa will allow me to take the opportunity to market myself and expand my brand,” she said.

She said she embraces the diva moments and knows what  it is to be a role model.
The mother of two described herself as a “unique, feisty, mysterious, fun-loving and witty” and draws influence from “all sorts of people”.

“(I take inspiration from) Ordinary, young, dead, legends. In everyone’s life story I try to extract important lessons like resilience, faith, strength. I learn as much as I can from the people I meet or read about,” she said.

However on her social media platform, the radio disc jockey identifies herself as an entertainer.
Zimbabweans are looking forward to see how she behaves in the house. Campaigns have already been launched on the social media platforms so as to garner support for her in the house.

The show will be launched live on October 5.
