THE second horse race meeting for 2017, the Guineas Trial, which had been set for this Sunday at Borrowdale, has been moved to a later date because of the rains. The event, which was supposed to be run over 1 600 meters, will now be held on January 29 at the same venue as the track is not in its bestcondition.

Guineas Trial was supposed to be the second race of 2017 but the sixth in the 2016-17 season which begun in October.

With stakes at $8 000, the Guineas Trial had 11 runners nominated for the race. Mashonaland Turf Club confirmed the postponement of the race meeting in a statement.

“The Mashonaland Turf Club and the trainers have agreed to postpone the January 22nd of 2017 Borrowdale meeting to January 29.

“Due to excessive rainfall last week (227 mm) the course is wet and closed. The weather forecast is for more rain to come. Nominations were done yesterday and weights and draws will be held today while declarations will be completed on January 23,” they stated.

Bridget Stidolph will have the highest number of runners in the main race as the stable will bring four. The seasoned trainer will have Karatu, Determination, Megagram and Rhythmical Reply while Amy Bronkhorst will have three horses for the race.

Kirk Swanson and Penny Fisher will both bring runners for the race.

Nominees
Karatu, Determination, Megagram and Rhythmical Reply (all Bridget Stidolph), Devil in Command, Esprit De Corps and Jinx Johnson (Amy Bronkhorst), Haga Haga, Phantom Major ( both Kirk Swanson), Kevin Barry, Lady Carina (Penny Fisher).
