Prom Night 2013

promoMiss Ash
Finally it’s now that time of year when we get to celebrate leaving school for the next level. Wow so exciting!! So I’m making it my duty to make sure y’all leave with a bang! If you are still planning your prom night and you are thinking of having a specific theme or colour code for everyone to dress in, here are some ideas of themes you could go with. These are just ideas but get as creative as you can, the more creative you get the more exciting the prom will be.

  •  Out of space theme – silver, black, dark blue, deep purple
  •  Under the sea theme – different shades of blue, white, silver
  •  Jamaican vibe theme – red, green, yellow, black
  •  Colour blocking theme – any bright colours that you feel like mixing together (don’t mix too much, you don’t want to end up looking like a clown, LOL).

If there is no set theme then ladies try luminous colours, like bright pink, yellow or lime. You could also try red, purple, orange, blue, it all just depends on what colour you like and what colour looks good on you.

If it is a dinner then you need to make sure you rock up looking classy and cool. Wear something that makes you look like a princess, you might just win the prom queen title!

If you want to wear something a bit shorter you could try a peplum dress that gets somewhere up to your knees but make sure the colour stands out and also make sure you are comfortable in it.

Don’t forget your small matching clutch bag. And make sure you carry a pair of nice pumps to wear later or you will end up sitting down most of the time . . . boring!

For the dudes, if it’s a dinner a really hot look would be a black on black tux. Or you could also consider the colour dress your date is wearing then wear a tie or bowtie that matches her dress . . . that would be SO DOPE!!

Make sure your suit is tight fitting so that you don’t drown in it. If it’s a party then you don’t want to look too formal so only then are you allowed to bring out the skinny jeans but make sure you wear them with a collared shirt and a nice blazer or jacket to complete the swag.

Take some time to practise using a fork and knife and learn some table etiquette. I will help you out with a few important ones:

  •  Do not put your elbows on the table
  •  Finish chewing and swallowing before you start talking
  •  Do not play with food
  •  Put your napkin on your lap
  •  If you spill something, help to clean it up
  •  If you burp or sneeze at the table, say “excuse me”
  •  Be on time

Now onto the dance floor, there are so many new dances out there so make sure you learn them. Catch the hip-hop group Cali Swag District’s “Teach Me How to Dougie” and learn how to do the “dougie”. The P-Square “Alingo” dance still looks good too!

In fact, to make it more fun, make some time after your last exam to do a dance routine with your friends or classmates to your favourite song and when it’s played at the prom party you all do it, super cool!

If you have a camera phone then make sure your battery is fully charged before you leave the house “cause you have to make sure you capture every moment of this special day”. If you are using an ordinary camera make sure you have a set of extra batteries and keep your camera safe.

I know you will all be looking cool, classy and full of swag! I would really want to know how it goes so please share your prom experiences with me on the Cool Lifestyle Facebook page.

Have fun and stay out of mischief!
