President Mugabe yesterday revealed that Vice President Joice Mujuru and her cabal had plans to assassinate him and engaged n’angas in their pursuit for power.

He said this while opening a Zanu-PF Central Committee meeting at the party’s headquarters on the second day of the ongoing 6th National People’s Congress.

VP Mujuru and her allies, secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa and Secretary for Transport and Welfare Nicholas Goche — who have been implicated in the plot to oust the President — were again conspicuous by their absence, marking the third straight indaba they have missed after last week’s Politburo meeting, the one held Tuesday and yesterday’s Central Committee meeting.

“VaMutasa, he he he he ndaibvunza chairman (Cde Simon Khaya Moyo) kuti asi manga marangana here? Vaiiti ini ndichazoda kutora chigaro chehuchairman ndikati aah zvachine munhu aripo akakuudzai kuti arikubviswa ndiyani?

“Ava (Cde Khaya Moyo) vanga vasingarambi kuti vanoda kuti vasimudzirwe, vaibvuma. Zvino vamwe ndivo vakanga vasvika pamweya wakashata. Ambition idzodzi kana dzisingaitike, vanhu vakuda kutsvaga nzira dzekuti zviitike nhasi. Let’s get the President out of the way so tobva tazouya nezvekuti aah kana kushudha tingamushudhe (Cde Mutasa, he he he he, I used to ask the national chairman (Cde Khaya Moyo) whether they had agreed that he relinquish his post for Cde Mutasa who said he would assume the post of national chairman. And I said there is no vacancy there, who told you that he will be removed? Cde Khaya Moyo did not make it a secret that he wanted to be elevated but the others had adopted evil intentions that stopped at nothing even having me shot).

“Handizvo, tiri paZim-Asset imi mune ndangariro iyoyo iri kuenda tome isu vamwe tiri kufa tichiti right vana (Patrick) Chinamasa vana (Joseph) Made tasvika papi ku industry tasvika papi?

“Vamwe ndoohope dzavari kurara idzodzo madreams avari kuita iwawo, dreams of power,” he said.

(Is that what we should be thinking about when we have Zim-Asset and while others are looking for resources to improve the economy.)’’

Cde Mutasa and expelled former spokesperson Rugare Gumbo were quoted saying if President Mugabe blocked VP Mujuru’s ascendancy, he will be shot and deposed the Kabila way. Former DRC president Laurent-Désiré Kabila was assassinated by a member of his security team on January 18, 2001.

President Mugabe said following Zanu-PF’s resounding victory in last year’s elections, most people thought the party was united yet VP Mujuru and her allies were colluding with the MDC-T and had tried to postpone the holding of the elections.

“And we all thought that we were united from top to bottom and that there were no machinations amongst us, but allas, we were deceived, we did not know that as we went to elections some of us from the top did not want those elections at all

“Ko maelections ndeeyi? Inclusive Government taita toda kuramba takadaro. We did not know that views were being shared between some of us in Zanu-PF at the top and the MDC,” he said.

A key member of the Mujuru faction, Cde Kudakwashe Bhasikiti — who is also Provincial Affairs Minister for Masvingo province — was recently quoted in the Masvingo Mirror saying the inclusive Government worked better than the all Zanu-PF government that followed last year’s harmonised elections.

President Mugabe said because of VP Mujuru’s machinations a lot of party cadres had been hoodwinked into following her plots thinking they were preparing for their future.

“And vanhu vanga votora masides ka kuti ehe we must prepare for our future, mamwe madzimai wiriwiri kudivi iroro, prepare for our future. Vamwe varume ikokoko wiriwiri preparing for our future but now vakudzvamuka kuramba.

“Handizvo zvinoitwa, once you do that you have divided the party and this is what has happened, this is what has happened.

“And the discovery of that and the uncovering of other things zvaana corruption zvazobudawo izvi,” President Mugabe said.

He added that VP Mujuru had also consulted traditional healers to get charms that would help her ascend to the Presidency and had also tried to get blessings from the leader of the Johane Marange Apostolic Sect in Manicaland in a desperate attempt to lead the country.

President Mugabe said the leader of the Church refused to grant her the blessing as the doctrine of the Church did not allow them to do that since leaders were appointed by God.

President Mugabe said during the liberation struggle it was unheard of that people would jostle for positions saying the practice then was to wait to be elevated by the people.

“I often say that during our time whether in the National Democratic Party, Zapu, Zanu you didn’t choose what to be, the party chose for you what you should be and you accepted any post that came your way,” he said.

President Mugabe said he started as information and publicity secretary in the NDP and became secretary general in Zanu before he was elevated to President.

He added that people had to wait to be voted by people into positions of authority and not use unorthodox means to attain power.

He commended the First Lady for leading the exposure of VP Mujuru’s devious plans saying she had divulged some things that he wanted to be kept away from the public domain.

President Mugabe said the Vice President had tried to block the ascension of the First Lady to lead the Women’s League despite the support she had received from the women, the youth and other party structures.

“Nyaya yekuti ko ava Amai ava vakatonzi huyai mutungamirire madzimai, kutungamirira madzimai, havana kunzi huyai mutore chigaro cha vice president.

“Ko, zvondo rabva papi? ndozvaakanga (Amai Mugabe) asingadi, so zvikanzi I’ll fix her.

“Zvese zvatakanga takamboisa pasi ah, pfachu pfachu, 10 percent. Zvikanzi anofunga kuti hatizive zvaari,” President Mugabe said.

The President added that he had witnessed a number of revolts in the party dating back to the days of the liberation struggle in the 1970s.

He said people like Rugare Gumbo, were part of the rebellions and were repeating their acts again.

“Isu taona zvakawanda muparty ka, makore nemakore marevolts aiitika kubva kune nguva yaana Nhari toenda kune ana Gumbo kubva 1977 nana1978.

“Vana Gumbo vaive vese vemadyirapanze, vainana Hamadziripi, nana Mandizvidza aiva mukuwasha akaroora — mukwasha, nanaMuparuru ainzi Dr Muparuru.

“Taenda kumameeting nana Tongogara, avo vosara voronga kutora power nemasimba,” President Mugabe said. “Zvino aah moda kupanduka futi vana Gumbo takambokuregerai? Aiwazve!”

President Mugabe said the ongoing Congress was supposed to shape the future of the party and ensure that it was left in capable hands.

“We are meeting at Congress and it’s a congress which now must lead us to be very, very careful for the future.

“You can see the future is long, there will be a future without the present leaders, after all some of our comrades are down.

“We no longer have (Vice President Joshua) Nkomo, hatisisinavo vese vanana (Vice President Simon Vengai) Muzenda nana (VP Joseph) Msika. So we will go also those of us in leadership, one day.

“Mazosara nevanhu vakadai party inoparara. Todzokera kuvarungu zvee nekuti zvainzi vaMugabe vanotidzivisa kukurukura nevarungu kuti varungu vauye,” he said.

The President accused VP Mujuru of working with Europeans and Americans in a mistaken belief that they would pour billions of dollars into the country’s economy.

President Mugabe said examples in West and North Africa where the countries were predominantly colonised by France showed that Europe did not have Africa’s interests at heart.

“I have been to Ghana 1958 to 1960 and when you look at them now and compare their present situation to that that existed in the 1960s, no change.

“There might be more people yes, there may be one road from the airport which has been well done yekungoti vanhu vanosvika munyika imomo vafunge kuti nyika yakwirira.

“That’s about all, no change. There are still areas were not all children go to school, nyika dzakakura. Woti why? Because they have remained under the control of countries like France, European countries like that,” he said.

He said most French colonies had remained dependent on their former colonisers due to the agreements they signed when they attained independence and had no control over their natural resources.

“So those countries are not free. What is now very important but an absolutely discouraging development is that the leaders we get now are not of the same calibre as vana (Kwame) Nkrumah, vana Seko Toure, vana Modibo Keita, vana (Abdel) Nasser, no. They are all yes leaders because they expect help, money from European countries,” he said.

He said people who thought Zimbabwe cannot do without Europeans or Americans had no place in Zanu-PF.

“It’s the same thinking that we are seeing here of people who say we can’t do without Europe and America.

“If you are American or European minded you don’t belong to Zanu-PF. Go there because we know that they will never let their riches be the foundation of the wealth of Africa,” he said.

President Mugabe said people in areas like Harlem, New Orleans and Brooklyn in the US were living in squalid conditions yet some thought the US government would assist Zimbabwe overcome its own challenges.
