Poets and dancers from Manicaland are set to perform at the fifth edition of Mutare Teen Expo to be held at the weekend. This year’s edition will be running under the theme “Reshaping the Future of Finance, Enhancing Skills, and Facilitating Access to the Formal Economy”.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, event spokesperson Terrence Phlint Mapuka said the poetry and dance are set to spice up the expo.

“Celebrations will cap the eventful day as the youth will perform different acts of dance, singing and poetry as they will also be commemorating the Day of the African Child,” he said.

The event is mainly for upcoming artistes so that they give them a platform to showcase their talent. “The performing artistes who are going to be from Manicaland are going to be the upcoming, those who are talented but struggling to make it in the industry due to lack of exposure and obviously financial constraints.

“We hope this will be a platform for them to showcase their talent and also introduce them to people of different backgrounds who can assist them in their careers,” he said.

He highlighted that the main thrust of the event which is to educate teenagers that as they grow up means and take up new responsibilities will be transmitted through poetry and dance from young stars from the province.

“Young people are in transition from childhood to adulthood, from dependency to independence. Their role in society is changing and they have new economic responsibilities. Drawing their attention to setting goals in life and managing their lifestyle can help them build their esteem, protect themselves and expand their life and career opportunities.

“Many a time the teens get the ‘rebel’ tag yet they are responding to what is happening around them. So we want to help these teens cope with changes in their lives through platforms like these that allow for diverse issues affecting teens to be addressed,” he said.
