Prince Edward Old Students donated musical equipment worth $ 11000 to the school’s jazz group on Friday.

The equipment, which includes a set of drums, two guitars, keyboard, channel mixers, base bins, microphones and microphone stands and speakers — was handed over to the school by the incumbent chairman of the old students’ group.

Elias Mapiye, the music director at the school, said the move was welcome as it enhances the promotion of talent. “This donation is welcome to the music department as it gives us room to improve and nurture the young ones,” he said. He said the old set of equipment had become dilapidated and was small but the new set would give the musical department room to expand.

“It is good when we have a group of old students who plough back to the school. We now have equipment that gives us and the students energy to work hard,” said Mapiye.

He said the boys were excited to have the equipment and they were confident that they will yield good results. “These are high-class instruments and we are hopeful that we will bring new innovation to assist the young ones in pursuit of their musical talent,” he said. Chairman of the association Willard Muchena said the donation came after they realised the potential of the jazz group.

“We have done a lot for other departments at the school and we felt there was need for us to give attention to music having seen the potential of the jazz group,” he said.

He said they managed to raise the money and buy the equipment.

“Usually when you realise that there is talent you work hard to nurture that and that was our case as we managed to raise the money and buy the equipment,” he said.
