President Mugabe’s daughter, Bona, who tied the knot with Simba Chikore two weeks ago, chose the Seychelles as her honeymoon destination and is already on the Indian Ocean islands with her husband. The wedding drew the attention of the world and was attended by prominent African leaders and high-level dignitaries.

Addressing civil servants at his belated 90th birthday celebrations organised by the Civil Service Commission in Harare yesterday, President Mugabe said the honeymoon was courtesy of Tourism and Hospitality Minister Engineer Walter Mzembi.

“They are happy together,” he said. “VaMzembi vakavapawo rufaro rwekuti vaende kuSeychelles ndokwavakabhururuka vachiti tonoitira honeymoon ikoko. So, tinoda kuvatenda VaMzembi nerufaro rwavakapa irworwo.”

The President had the party attendants laughing when he said all the State machinery had failed to protect his daughter from Chikore.
“Va(Mariyawanda) Nzuwah vati tinoda kukukwazisai mese mhuri nejaya iro (Robert Junior) riri papapo asi havana kuenderera mberi nekuti President vari kusvimha kuti ah pane gwanzaka apo rasara riripapo,” he said.

“Ko VaNzuwah ndimi mune macommissioners, defence forces, vesecurity vese, mapurisa ese azere nyika buri rakapoya nemwana wangu riri papi? Ndakarasikirwa nemwana muripo makatarisa nemacommissioners enyu aya.

“Honai nhasi ndangouya nejaya iri (Robert Mugabe Jr) rimwe raenda kuchikoro, umwe handichaziva kwaakaenda nemumasango umu.”
President Mugabe was grateful for the support his family was getting from the public in good and bad times.

“Tremendous help – first the death of my sister Bridget you came in a very solid way, very cheerful, mournful, full of sympathies and you have helped us to have the relief, to have the necessary courage and bravery that enabled us to make the arrangement that saw our daughter getting married and that too was preceded by my birthday also celebrated by the Youth League,” he said.

“Takaenda kuMarondera tese tikafara zvikurukuru and thereafter we have a grand marriage of our daughter.”

Did this Minister sponsor with his own money or he simply dipped his fingers into the Ministry’s coffers? Surely these super rich people can afford their own honeymoon for the country to be paying for it. Zim inokandisa mapfumo pasi!

Yes rub it in when people in Tokwe-Mukosi have had the tents destroyed to compound the misery. Lives of the rich and the disengaged from the realities around us.
