Preparations for the National Disability Expo running from July 30 to August 1 at the Africa Unity Square are at an advanced stage. One of the event organisers, Ticha Muzavazi, said everything is in place and all the groups taking part have confirmed their participation. “Everything is in place for our event and all the groups have confirmed their participation and this time our event is bigger as compared to last year’s,” he said.

The second edition of the expo will run under the theme “Empowering persons with disabilities through an inclusive Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation”.

“The National Disability Expo seeks to exhibit what persons with disabilities are capable of achieving if empowered with the right skills, tools and policies that enable them to excel in their desired ventures.

“These people are able to bring socio-economic development to our nation if they are empowered,” he said.
Muzavazi said different schools and arts groups around the country will be taking part at the expo.

“We have lot schools this time and some of them include St Giles, Jairos Jiri, Greenlight International, Danhiko High School, Albino Charity Organisation and Kapota School for the Blind.”

Gospel musician Munyaradzi Munodawafa is expected to perform on the official day together with Baba Gonora who usually performs in streets.
Muzavazi said the expo will unite the disabled people and help them share skills.

“The expo will unite all the groups around the country because they live in separate areas. All the performers will have one combined act on the last day.

“We will also identify the most talented and we will groom them so that they become the best in areas of speciality,” he said.
The event is organised by the Office of the President and Cabinet (Disability Desk) in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund. The disability expo was established last year.
