DAY MUYAMBO won the third event of Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association development Tour at Chapman yesterday. The seasoned campaigner had rounds of 68 and 69 to finish on seven-under-par after the two rounds. The Royal Harare professional was part of the over 35 players who took part in the tournament that was organised for professionals and top amateurs.

The locals now have something to cheer about after Cedric Jonker, who was the Zambezi Tour operations director, joined hands with professionals to form the Tour.

Howard Bauti, who recently turned professional, showed that he has what it takes to be part of the competitive field as he finished second.

Bauti had scores of 68 and 74 for a two-under-par score while Steve Ferreira, fresh from winning a Big Easy event, was third.

Amateur golf players Travis Smith carded 74 and 68 to finish fourth.

Dale Howie finished tied for fifth with evergreen Garry Thompson as both players finished the two rounds with identical scores of 71 and 73.

The tournaments continue next week at Wingate with two rounds.

Several professional golfers interviewed by The Herald yesterday said they were happy to be playing on the Tour.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will host the The Gilberson and Page Trophy Ladies Golf Tournament at the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club and the Chapman Golf Club.

The event will feature Kenya and Zambia and the teams are expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Saturday.

The Gilberson and Page Trophy Ladies Golf Tournament was first played in 1969 as a match between East Africa and Zambia and the 44-year old championship is today the top ladies golf event in the region.

Jack Gilberson and Reg Page of Zambia presented the G&P Trophy in 1969.

In 1983 Zimbabwe was invited and the G&P became a triangular match between Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The G&P matches consist of three foursome matches, ordinarily played in the morning and six singles matches in the afternoon.
