A Chitungwiza municipal policeman was yesterday brought to court for hurling insults on his former girlfriend.
Hamundide Pfidze who was seeking a protection order from her abusive ex-boyfriend — Shepherd Sithole, said the municipal cop who was heavily drunk took advantage of a strike by Chitungwiza council workers to shout obscenities.

The municipal cop embarrassed her in front of striking workers.

“Your Worship, I am seeking a protection order against my former boyfriend Shepherd who has been abusing me since last year in December,” she said.

“He has been coming to my parents’ place shouting obscenities and calling me names and he once destroyed my door, kitchen unit and window.”

Pfidze further told Chitungwiza Civil Court magistrate Ms Marehwanazvo Gofa that Sithole had developed a bad habit of passing lewd remarks on her in front of her workmates.

“When I was advised to seek a protection order, he came to the municipal head office during a strike while drunk and threatened me that I shall reap what I sow. He said he was capable of turning my life into history and that people would read about me in the papers.

“He called me a prostitute in front of my workmates. We are both employed by the council, he is on the police side while I work at the road maintenance section,” she said.
In his response, Sithole could neither deny nor agree to the allegations levelled against him.

“We were staying together (co-habiting) when she brought another man home and trouble started when I enquired who the man was,” he said.

Ms Gofa, however, could not take any of this and pressed him to respond to the allegations.

Ms Gofa granted the order in Pfidze’s favour and ordered Sithole not to set foot at his former girlfriend’s house in Zengeza as requested.
