Newly-crowned Miss Cultural Zimbabwe Euginia Chiyangwa says she was confident she would win the title at the Rainbow Towers in Harare over the weekend.

The 21-year-old model who awaits to travel for her studies in China said she worked hard in preparing for the contest and believed she would win.

Thelma Sharon Rutenga (21), became the first princess while Bionica Chipange (21) was the second princess and Tendai Gezi (19) Miss Personality.

Speaking shortly after her crowning as Miss Cultural Zimbabwe, she said she had done all the necessary work so that she would achieve her goal and much to her anticipation, she won.

“I came here with one goal, that is to conquer, win and carry the crown home.

“I was positive about being the queen way before we walked on the ramp,” she said.

The new queen was selected from a tight contest with 19 other finalists who were chosen from Bulawayo, Harare, Chiredzi and other towns.

Chiyangwa, who described herself as the definite saviour queen for the Zimbabwe beauty pageants industry, said this was her first title.

“I have always been passionate about modelling because some of my family members have made it on big pageants like Miss Zimbabwe and others. I am honoured to have received this crown for the first time, it is my dream come true,” she said.

She said her first step is to let the youth know more about the Zimbabwean culture.

“I am going to put all I have on educating young people about our different cultures in Zimbabwe.

“We have very interesting cultures that need to be safeguarded by young people so that it continues to live on,” she said.

The model, who is also into cooking, said her future looks brighter.

“This title will be my stepping stone as I venture into more big pageants for more opportunities. I now finally see a bright light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.

The queen and her princesses were expected to receive their cash prizes yesterday morning and more prizes that the organisers promised in the next few days.

The event managed to draw a reasonable crowd with guests from the Chinese Embassy, fashionistas and modelling agencies and notable figures that included Mudiwa Hood, Baba Shupi, Charis Fashion Designers who entirely dressed the models and many others.

Entertainment was provided by Jah Signal, Marques and Okoye who sang a 35-minute long theme song “Miss Cultural Zimbabwe”.
