Met warns of violent storms

According to the department’s head of forecasting Mr Tich Zinyemba, rainfall is expected to pick-up after a decrease over the weekend from tomorrow.

“It is going to be a wet week in most parts of the country.

“Some heavy localised falls in excess of 30mm are expected with heavy rains expected on Friday in the north-eastern parts of the country,” he said.

On Saturday, a hailstorm hit a farm near Norton resulting in the loss of more than US$45 000 worth of crops.

Yesterday, some crystals of ice could still be seen at the plot by afternoon while farm workers picked up several dead birds and mice that were killed by the hailstorm.

Mr Zinyemba said the rainfall received so far was consistent with the seasonal forecast of normal to above normal rainfall.
