Mr Elton Mangoma

Herald Reporter
AN MDC-T youth leader has been arrested on allegations of assaulting the party’s deputy treasurer-general Mr Elton Mangoma at Harvest House a fortnight ago. James Chidhakwa, an MDC-T secretary for security and defence in the youth assembly, was arrested over the weekend.

Police confirmed Chidhakwa’s arrest yesterday. He is expected to appear in court today.
“We confirm that we arrested Mr Chidhakwa over the weekend and he is expected to appear in court on Monday,” said police spokesperson chief superintendent Paul Nyathi. He said investigations were underway.

Mr Mangoma was assaulted at the party headquarters in the presence of MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai following a heated meeting.
He had told Mr Tsvangirai to step down after dismally losing to President Mugabe and Zanu-PF in last year’s harmonised elections.

Mr Mangoma, self-exiled treasurer-general Roy Bennett and Ian Kay, among others, MDC-T have told Mr Tsvangirai to resign.
