Morale is high in the Mawungira eNharira camp with the group finally securing a base at RedFox in Greendale, a month after the closure of Book Café.

The group that had not performed since their old home shut its doors weeks ago received a shot in the arm and will now be playing at the new venue every Saturday.

“We are happy (with this new development). It is such a relief because frankly, we had become desperate. The fans kept enquiring on whether we had found a new venue. After almost a month, we are happy that the band is going back on stage,” said an elated Wilfred “Nyamasvisva” MaAfrika who fronts Mawungira eNharira.

After years at the Book Café, Nyamasvisva said the group is looking forward to making new memories at RedFox where they will be playing every Saturday. The traditionalist said it was not all about finding a good venue but they were celebrating a partnership with people who appreciate traditional music.

“I am happy that there are still people out there who have a genuine love for our music and are willing to support us. This marks a new dawn for us. It is going to be an interesting journey,” he said. The group is not hibernating this cold season as they have a number of biras to celebrate the cold weather.

Nyamasvisva invited fans to embrace the new venue saying it was conducive for the ultimate mbira celebrations. He said the group has since started to sample new songs like “Kwaziwayi Soko Mukanya”.

The song is a tribute by the Mawungira eNharira founder, Nyamasvisva’s mother.

It breaks a music drought from the group and is taken off their upcoming seventh album that have been in the pipeline for months. While Nyamasvisva and Mawungira eNharira are putting on a brave face, it remains to be seen if they will rise once again to be the band to watch each weekend.
