CAPS United coach Mark Harrison says he wants to cultivate a winning mentality in his players as they travel to Barbourfields for the semi-final of the Bob ‘91 Super Cup against Highlanders this Sunday.

Makepekepe, who featured in the inaugural contest with Dynamos, return to the invitational tournament this year after missing the previous three editions.

Their new coach believes this is a great opportunity for him to drill his new-look outfit in game situations ahead of the season.

The Green Machine are coming from another high-profile pre-season match against Dynamos in the Sino-Zim Cement Cup last week which they won 6-5 on penalties after the match had ended in a 1-1 deadlock.

Harrison said Makepekepe will treat the clash against Highlanders the same way they approached last week’s victory over bitter rivals Dynamos.

“It’s not different from last weekend, really. Yes it’s still pre-season but there is competition as well.

“There is more at stake for the club and also prestige for the club and for the players.

“We go with the mentality that we want to win but at the same time we are still in the process of rebuilding and preparing,” said Harrison.

CAPS United are building their team again after losing some of their key players from last season who included goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube, Tendai Samanja, Dominic Chungwa, Kenneth Bulaji, Nicholas Alifandika, Honey Chimutimunzeve and skipper Tapiwa Kumbuyani.

There were fears they could face a player crisis but their pre-season began brightly with an influx of experienced and unheralded players at the trials conducted by assistants Brenna Msiska and Fungai Kwashi.

Makepekepe are also still assessing former Highlanders midfielder Joel Ngodzo who joined them on trials last week, just a few days after his former coach at Bosso Mark Mathe was roped into the Green Machine technical team as the second assistant coach.

The duo’s presence in the Makepekepe ranks could be an advantage for the Harare giants ahead of Sunday’s match.
