Afro-fusion songbird Cynthia Mare launched her third album entitled “Shinga” at the 7 Arts Theatre at Avondale Shopping Centre last weekend at an event that was graced by several artistes. The “Zuva Rimwe” singer set the bar for other artistes as she displayed a high level of commitment at the colourful launch which was hosted by popular comedian Clive Chigubu and one of Zimbabwe’s liveliest MCs, Zaza Ndlovu, and was screened live on ZTV.

MDC-T Member of Parliament for Kuwadzana East Nelson Chamisa, who was the guest of honour at the launch, commended Mare for her seriousness and expressed confidence in the latest offering.

“I appreciate music from Cynthia Mare because she is an organised woman,” Chamisa said. “I am excited that we have a young woman who is serious and we have to promote her and buy the original CD. You have to buy this one (original CD) and it’s a must. “In Parliament we are working on a Bill to deal with those who sell pirated music,” he said.

Also present as the second guest of honour was NicozDiamond chief executive officer Mrs Grace Muradzikwa, who officially launched the CD and made it available to the general public citing how she realised the difficulties faced by Mare to launch the album.

“I realised how difficult it is to launch an album when Cynthia approached me but I am so happy that finally she accomplished her dream,” Mrs Muradzikwa said. The CD was auctioned for $1 000 and was sold to one of Mare’s female fans. Mare gave a splendid performance as she sampled songs off her new album which most revellers seemed to appreciate as she unbundled song after song.

She also expressed her gratitude to several stakeholders who made the event a success . Supporting acts who included BaShupi, Sabastian Magacha, Donald Kanyuchi, Victor Kunonga and Tytan, who is Mare’s manager, entertained the audience and they all did justice to their slots.

In separate interviews, some of the artistes commended the work done by Mare. “She has set a bar high for most artistes despite being a woman. The level of excellence is just amazing and I am so happy for her and wish her all the best,” said Ba- Shupi.
