A Zimbabwean play titled “The Gods You’ve Built” is set to tour Kenya at the annual Sondeka Festival to run from October 18 to 20, but the trip hangs in balance.Director Leeroy Gono said they were in need of money for the air tickets.

“As a production house, we are quite pleased with the recognition we are getting from the regional and international market but as long as we do not get the necessary support I am afraid we will not realise our full potential.

“The cast is yet to secure air tickets for their maiden appearance in East Africa,” he said.

Principal characters in the play include a professor who has lost hope in the meaning of his philosophies and struggles to come to terms with the death of his son, a nun who has lost her faith and grasps on to anything that might afford her a semblance of meaning in life and a drunken police officer caught up in the vortex of the destructive nature of the other two characters’ loss of hope and meaning.

Challenging the existence of God and the meaning of life in the most tragic of circumstances, this play resonates with audiences as it asks questions that move through peoples’ minds all the time but which they dare not say.

The actors, Precious Mudzingwa, Dereck Nziyakwi and Leeroy Gono, all deliver flawless performances and are likely going to lift the Zimbabwean flag high.

The play has been a big hit since its premiere at the Charles Austin theatre late last year.

It was rated one of the best plays ever watched at the Harare International Festival of the Arts 2014 and it continues to scale dizzy heights.

Sondeka festival serves as a platform for numerous events, activities, exhibitions that showcase East Africa’s creative industry and promote Africa as a centre for creativity and investment opportunities.
