Latest: Youth ministry to miss targets

The Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment is likely to miss its development programmes this year after Treasury allocated about 52 percent of its monetary requirements for this year, parliamentarians heard this morning.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Indigenisation and Empowerment officials from the Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment said they bid for US$85,5m but were allocated US$44, 4m.
Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena chaired the committee that was also attended by stakeholders from economic empowerment and youth groups.
Said acting secretary in the ministry Mr Simon Masanga: “We have two sub votes within the ministry. First one is administration and general. Under this vote we bid for US$63 million and we were allocated US$40 million, leaving a shortfall of US$23 million.
“The second sub vote for the ministry is on vocational training. We had bid for US$22 million. We were allocated US$4 million, leaving a shortfall of US$17 million.”
Parliamentarians urged the ministry to be innovative and come up with other funding mechanisms than rely on the Treasury.
