Zanu-PF political commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere has warned party cadres against causing chaos in the revolutionary party in their unrestrained pursuit of power. He said such elements will be dealt with decisively. Cde Kasukuwere said this while addressing the party leadership in Mashonaland East on Wednesday that included Politburo and Central Committee members, interim provincial executives, parliamentarians and others drawn from war veterans and war collaborators.

He visited the province to deal with various matters affecting the party, including the case of interim provincial chairman Cde Aeneas Chigwedere, who was briefly booted out last week before he was reinstated, while several other party cadres in the province were recommended for five-year suspensions or expulsion from the party.

“We must all ensure that we build the party, knowing what we have experienced in the past,” said Cde Kasukuwere.

“We had challenges before the December congress where there was competition for power and unbridled ambition and we are seeing it re-emerging now.

“You must be careful because if you have unbridled ambitions you may end up falling by the wayside like what has happened to many others.”

Cde Kasukuwere warned that people who were positioning themselves for party positions instead of working for the betterment of the people risked destroying their political careers.

“Let us avoid targeting each other because one wants to position themselves for a post,” he said. “Let us avoid going beyond the power that has been given to you by the party because it has its limits.

“Kasukuwere is the political commissar and is responsible for making appointments to the committees and you do not have that power to make those appointments. You do not appoint committees.

“If you have problems come to me, do not do coup d’états.”

Cde Kasukuwere warned party cadres in the provinces against pursuing personal vendettas. “You should not concentrate on writing petitions, but building the party,” he said. “Those who have disciplinary issues are being dealt with by the appropriate organs of the party.

“If you have any information that you want the party leadership to know there are proper channels for that instead of rushing to the media.” He said it was the duty of every party member to ensure unity of purpose prevailed.

“This is a people’s party and no one is bigger than the party,” he said. “We had challenges with the ‘bhora musango’ phenomenon in 2008 that resulted in the GNU, but the party came out stronger because we had a solid leader in President Mugabe.

“The President is under a lot of pressure because of us and everything he is doing is not for himself, but for the country. He has sacrificed a lot for this country.

“So it is upon us to ensure that the party remains united and not to pursue selfish objectives.” Cde Kasukuwere gave the interim provincial executive committee up to mid-May to complete the restructuring of party organs.

Politburo members Cdes Mike Bimha, Edna Madzongwe and Sydney Sekeremayi attended the meeting.
