HARARE City have clearly been the best team in the Chibuku Super Cup after scoring 13 goals en-route to another final dance and a showdown with Dynamos. The Sunshine Boys have excelled in the tournament where they have hammered Buffaloes 4-1 before embarrassing Triangle 5-0 in the quarter-finals

On Saturday, they showed they mean business when they dismissed ZPC Kariba 4-1 in the semi-finals.

Last year Harare City lost to FC Platinum in a penalty shoot-out after having led the duel for most of the match.

But yesterday coach Taurai Mangwiro said they were not looking at last year’s run.

“We have cleared three hurdles, that was good for us but what is left now is to put last year’s memories behind us, turn on the power and win the Cup this year,” said Mangwiro.

“However, it is important to note that there is something about Dynamos which makes them different from the other teams that we have played and it is their ability to grind results even under difficult circumstances.

“If you look at what happened on Sunday, Chapungu dominated and had some chances but it was Dynamos who emerged victorious and that element is what makes them dangerous opponents.

“But we have no fear whatsoever and we should be able to get the silverware.”

Mangwiro says he wants his players to take their Cup form into the league.

“Unfortunately the conversion rate we get in the Chibuku Cup is not what we have in the league and, if it was like that, we could be somewhere,” said Mangwiro.

“The players are giving it their best shot fully aware that we have a lifeline in the Chibuku Cup and have managed to pump in goals. We hope we will maintain that touch in the league so that we would be able to finish in the top six. Already that is under threat as Chapungu and CAPS United are posting good results, so there is a lot to fight for so that we finish the season in a higher position.”

Interestingly, Harare City and Dynamos clash again in a league encounter this weekend.

DeMbare team manager Richard Chihoro said they were aware of their opponents’ recent good run in the Chibuku Super Cup.

“We are playing them again this weekend and we are likely to play them month-end again so it is a tricky tie, it will be a tough game,” said Chihoro.

“Harare City are playing well in this Cup. We respect them. They have a good coach and last year they reached the Chibuku Super Cup final again, we expect a really tough game.

“We are experienced and used to such kind of pressure, chasing a double, and it is a good thing that our hopes are still alive in both tournaments.

“It was a tough match against Chapungu. They came prepared for the match and played well but our team work is amazing and I believe that’s where we make a difference.

“Every player knows what they are playing for and they never give up but rather push and encourage each other right up to the end.”

Dynamos will resume training this morning.
