HARARE giants Dynamos continued to strengthen their side by securing the signature of Young Warriors defender Liberty Chakoroma while talks to re-engage midfielder Archford Gutu are almost complete.

The duo started training with the team last week and it appears they have impressed the technical team led by new Portuguese coach Paulo Jorge Silva.

DeMbare were also joined at training by midfielder Brian Abbas Amidu, who is also hoping to get a contract following his return from the United Arab Emirates.

They are also still assessing former Triangle defender Jimmy Dzingai.

The Glamour Boys secretary-general, Webster Chikengezha, yesterday said they were looking to finalise their squad by next week.

Chikengezha revealed they have agreed in principle with Gutu’s handlers for the midfielder to make his return to the Glamour Boys following a three-year stint in Sweden.

Gutu left Dynamos in 2012 to join Swedish top-flight outfit Kalmar FF but was later loaned out to second tier side IFK Varnamo for the 2014 and 2015 season.

“For Archford Gutu we are almost done. In fact, we have agreed terms and everything. What is left is just to do the contract signing as I was out of the country for quite a number of days.

“We are hoping to finalise that soon. Once we meet with the executive today (yesterday) or tomorrow, we are going to finalise that.

“I am also going to get more feedback on Abbas. He has already indicated to me that he wants to join us and we are consulting with the coaches to see what is going to happen. But that means we might have to push more out of the team.”

DeMbare are battling to fill the slots left by the departure of key players such as Ronald Chitiyo, Blessing Moyo and Artwell Mukandi, who have opted to move to their rivals.

Midfielders Milton Makopa and Tichaona Mabvura’s contracts expired at the end of the year and have not been renewed.

Chakoroma, who turns 22 next month, will add depth to the central defence where they had problems last year following the injury to skipper Augustine Mbara.

The former Buffaloes player returned home in December following a brief stint with South Africa’s Free State Stars.

Sydney Linyama and Elisha Muroiwa are the other central defenders at Dynamos but Linyama also had recurring injury problems last year, leaving the coaches to makeshift plans.

The Harare giants are still looking for strikers to complement their forward line.

The technical team apparently is not convinced by the quality in the domestic league and have hinted they will cast their nets wide across continents as far as Portugal and Brazil.

Already the club has signed four players who include Warriors fringe midfielder Tichaona Chipunza, Dominic Mukandi from CAPS United, Valentine Ndaba and young goalkeeper Ashley Reyners.

DeMbare entertained more than 60 players last week when they started training but they have trimmed the number to 28. Most of the trialists were shown the exit at the weekend but the coaches are looking to reach a decision over Amidu and ex-Triangle man Dzingai by the end of this week.

However, it appears the Harare giants are still not done with the recruitment as they are expecting three players from Zambia tomorrow for trials.

The players include a goalkeeper, midfielder and a striker.

“We still stand to be guided by the technical team. But from the report they gave us it shows so far they are happy with the squad although they have indicated there is need for an additional striker.

“The squad is almost complete, though, and we are happy with the material that we have. We had many players coming to try their luck.

“At one stage last week they (the coaches) had about 62 players training so they have trimmed down the number and I think by next week we should have our full squad,” said Chikengezha.
